The special emphasis for 2016 International Roadcheck is tire safety
Each year, International Roadcheck places special emphasis on a category of violations. The special emphasis for 2016 International Roadcheck is tire safety (i.e., measuring the tire tread depth, checking the tire pressure, checking to make sure that no items are lodged between dual tires and examining the overall condition of the tire to make sure that no deep cuts or bulges exist in the sidewalls of the tire). While checking a vehicle's tires is always part of roadside inspections, CVSA is highlighting tire safety as a reminder to drivers and carriers.

Dramatic surveillance video of Douglas Street truck crash shows the moment of impact
Dramatic surveillance video of Douglas Street truck crash shows the moment of impact
A concrete staircase ripped apart, a tree torn out of the ground. This is just some of the damage left behind by Thursday’s horrific crash. Typical busy traffic on Victoria’s Douglas Street. This surveillance video captured by a camera mounted on the Red Lion Inn. But watch the truck to the left of the screen. It stops just seconds before the moment of impact. Randy Eckert of the Saferway Driver Training School says it’s a miracle the driver survived.
“I would say that he’s very lucky to be alive. The tree itself, I mean, the branches could have come through the window. The shrapnel of all the concrete, and everything, blowing up around it.”
On Thursday morning, Eckert and a student driver were in their vehicle on Douglas Street.
