Slow Down, Move Over Since 2009 - So why aren't we getting the message

Slow Down, Move Over Since 2009 - So why aren't we getting the message. I know on Vancouver Island BC people are not getting the message.

So Please "Slow Down, Move Over" legislation was added to the BC Motor Vehicle Act in 2009.

With more than 400 roadside workers injured or killed in BC since 2001 --this law is essential in helping to protect the professionals who risk their lives to assist us when we need help. This video was produced by the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles in British Columbia.

Trucking industry faces driver shortage down the road

PATRICK GALLAGHER | QMI AGENCY

The gap between the available drivers and demand is widening, according to a new report from the Conference Board of Canada.

It is getting harder to convince young people to consider a career in truck driving and it is likely to prove costly for the trucking industry, the consumer and retail sectors and the broader Canadian economy, the report suggests.

As many as 25,000 trucking jobs could be unfilled in the next seven years, and theimplications could be huge for industries such as agriculture and retailers.

"The food we eat, the goods that we enjoy and even the homes we live in are in large part delivered by trucks," said Vijay Gill, a principal research associate at the Conference Board of Canada.

Heavy-Duty Trucking Fleets Receive Incentives to Deploy Natural Gas Vehicles

British Columbia-based utility FortisBC has announced that it is awarding a total of $6 million in incentives to seven fleets in an effort to increase the number of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) operating in the province.

With the funding assistance, BC Transit, BFI Canada, the City of Vancouver, Cold Star Freight System Inc., Emterra Environmental, School District No. 23 (Kelowna) and Smithrite Disposal Ltd. will collectively deploy 150 heavy-duty NGVs. This is part of a $104.5 million B.C. provincial program launched last May.
